The legendary musician passed away in San Diego where he was recovering from an operation last week.
His widow Sukanya and daughter Anoushka, his sitar protégée, said he had been too frail to withstand the strain of surgery.

Sitar maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar, one of India’s best known musicians, died after a long illness in California at the age of 92.
A three-time Grammy winner, Shankar was called the ‘Godfather of world music’ by George Harrison. He collaborated and taught many musicians from the West such as violinist Yehudi Menuhin and jazz saxophonist John Coltrane and made legendary appearances at the 1967 Monterey Festival and Woodstock Festival.
